Passive Renovation

We just renovated this Dublin house to Passive House Standards in 2009 and added a new 90m2 super-insulated Passive House 3 storey Timber Frame extension with an 0.10 U-Value floor, an 0.08 U-Value roof and 0.11 U-Value walls. Before the renovation Olive (the client) described this house as "the coldest house in Ireland" and now its one of the warmest houses in Ireland and she hasn't turned on the heating since she moved back in last Febuary. The existing structure has been externally insulated with 250mm of EPS External Insulation, 350mm of Cellulose has been pumped into the roof and 400mm of EPS has been put under the new concrete slab. We also fitted 0.8 U-Value Triple Glazed windows and got the air tightness levels down below 1. 3 FiWi HRV units were fitted which supply the house with fresh air and keep the humidity and CO2 levels low. This is the most efficient Heat Recovery Ventilation ever invented as each heat exchanger uses 17km of fine wire as a heat exchange medium so it has 8 times greater heat exchange surface area than a standard HRV unit.
